Modem = Modulate + Demodulate
- Technically referring to dial up internet connection
- Transfers analog data

Router
- Used for broadband/ADSL/fibre etc internet connection
- Transfers digital data [faster speeds]

• Large range of hardware to use software - computers, modems, routers
• Optic fibres are not as limited as normal copper wires - allow for larger amounts of data to travel to "the tower" at any one time
• HTTP : Hypertext Transfer Protocol
• FTP - Files Transfer Protocol - a different "language" for computers compared to 'http'
• Digital data(*) is sent through computers, which is broken up to the smallest part of data called 'bit'.
• Byte = 8 bits ; Nybble = 4 bits
• Ethical/Social Issues: Matter to an information system as they allow people to improve future systems. Examples include - safety/privacy etc.

*Computer language made up of 0's and 1's - only language that a computer understands
