Data Dictionary.
Meta data: Data about data. Provides information about the different things in the database.
Example of what it can tell someone:
- Different types of data types [numeric data etc.]
- Field names
Data dictionaries refer to one table, therefore if there is four tables there are four data dictionaries.
---
Schema: The schema (pronounced skee-ma) of a database system is its structure described in a formal language supported by the database management system (DBMS). In a relational database, the schema defines the tables, the fields in each table, and the relationships between fields and tables.
Example of a schema:

Legend:
Key: Primary field, only occurs once per table
Infinity: Can occur multiple times in a table

HYPERMEDIA - internet based database

Slash meanings 0.o; [who would've thought they had differnt meanings...]
'\' - file system
'\\' - file server
'/' - web base instructions

Notes.
Different types of databases - manual, flat file, relational & hypermedia
Page 44 in textbook!!!Manual - paper databases, best when databases are used for personal use
- Most large scale businesses wouldn't use this method, due to diffculty to update information
Flat file - one table databases; useful to mostly small businesses (single asian stores?)
- Use in a business for personal records; relative small list [can be bigger than manual]. More possibility for redundant data, the more company personel the more redundant information arises.
Relational - multi-table databases; useful to large businesses (coles, woolsworths etc.)
- Best for large scale business: can store large amounts of data in a more organised manner
- Doesn't always have online access, sometimes can only be accessed through the office
Hypermedia - internet websites; modern version of paper based databases
- Easy access to products - more searchable
- Have more information compared to manual databases
- Easier to update; rather than having to reprint catalogues
- Least private compared to the other databases - expanding the audience to worldwide. Easier to access information, stealing data is easier to be done. Information that should remain private, needs to be secured in some manner.
- Security issues:
- Passwords are highly needed - access to information is restricted.
- Encryption may be used to further ensure security of data transferal.
- Level of access may be used; boss would have access to all information regarding the work, normal employee may only have access to their own personal records/whatever data is needed for the job.
Read pages 46-49

Encryption - the activity of converting data or information into code.

New Year :]
:] Helloo new year~!!!
----
Modem = Modulate + Demodulate
- Technically referring to dial up internet connection
- Transfers analog data
Router
- Used for broadband/ADSL/fibre etc internet connection
- Transfers digital data [faster speeds]
NotesInformation Systems- Large range of hardware to use software - computers, modems, routers
- Optic fibres are not as limited as normal copper wires - allow for larger amounts of data to travel to "the tower" at any one time
- HTTP : Hypertext Transfer Protocol
- FTP - Files Transfer Protocol - a different "language" for computers compared to 'http'
- Digital data(*) is sent through computers, which is broken up to the smallest part of data called 'bit'.
- Byte = 8 bits ; Nybble = 4 bits
- Ethical/Social Issues: Matter to an information system as they allow people to improve future systems. Examples include - safety/privacy etc.
*Computer language made up of 0's and 1's - only language that a computer understands

What is..
Update after a LONG time ^^". Anyway, this lesson we were asked to look up definitions and what is of different things. There are more answers with group's blogs:
_____________________________________
Looking up definitions for: - Primary Memory Storage
- Secondary Memory Storage
Primary Memory Storage
Source
Also known as 'Main Storage' or 'Memory' is the main area of storage for computers in which data is stored for quick access by the computer's processor. The computer continiously reads instructions stored here and proceeds to inact them as required. Memory stored here is stored in the RAM of the computers.
Secondary Memory Storage
Source
Is known to be the slowest, and cheapest, form of storage. Cannot be directly processed by the CPU - Central Processing Unit, it must be first copied from Primary Memory Storage. Secondary memory devices are the computer's hard drive, floppy disks (no longer used now), CD's.

LED
Yeahh we were asked to look up about LED :)
LED = Light Emitting DiodesLight emitting diodes, commonly called LEDs, are real unsung heroes in the
electronics world. They do dozens of different jobs and are found in all kinds
of devices. Among other things, they form the numbers on digital
clocks, transmit information from remote controls,
light up watches and tell you when your appliances are turned on. Collected
together, they can form images on a jumbo television
screen or illuminate a traffic
light.
Basically, LEDs are just tiny light bulbs that fit easily into an
electrical circuit. But unlike ordinary incandescent
bulbs, they don't have a filament that will burn out, and they don't get
especially hot. They are illuminated solely by the movement of electrons in a semiconductor
material, and they last just as long as a standard transistor.
In this
article, we'll examine the simple principles behind these ubiquitous blinkers,
illuminating some cool principles of electricity and light in the process.
SourceAdvantages of LED---
And there's such a thing as LED flexible screen which are totally random and a waste of money if you ask me...

OUTLOOK
:) hi hi.
Today we were introduced to Outlook by Microsoft Outlook. It's actually quite good - probably saying that because of the instant messaging thing but that's not the point. The point is that it has the potential to help us xD!!!!
And not just restricted to IPT assignments~ buhahahahaha.
Am currently im-ing with
Jess :) she's actually pretty funny :O.
ahahaha.
Overally happy today for no reason ^^v
And that work about the things we would neeed for a gaming media - it's on Jess's (the link before) page :) we worked together on that.
And and we finally handed in our assignment last lesson xD
Oh and there is this photography comp that is being run by the Photography class :) I'm thinking of entering..I want to xD
Dunno if I can though....

Update
Okay I'm trying to finish up all the profiles I've been given, and I've finished the login page which made me happy, and with the basic home profile page, I've made the basic outline of what it should look like and I'm pretty happy.
The theory will in most likelihood be put up next week - nearer to the due date (and it shall be done :) .. need to go look at the assignment outline of what we need to do).
And yes I'm finalizing things with what I need to do.

Assignment planning.
Okay so this post is just going to be about our assignment - which we haven't decided on a title. And as stated in my last post it shall be an electronic yearbook. And today we set up what different aspects of pages, and I tried to do a 'preview' of one of them - I chose to do one for the profile page, or at least the page that will eventually link from the 'boss' page of the profile.
Profile page layout:Yeah that's what we drew up today during class. And what each page will contain, however we still aren't sure the concrete layout of it. And we also defined
the situation to which we would have presented our electronic yearbook to:
We have chosen to create an easy to access, hard to loose, electronic yearbook in order to preserve memories. We have thought about what we would have to consider, including privacy - of both the actual website and the people involved, longevity (sp?), how to get to the site.
We also decided we will be doing 10 prototype profiles from the people in our IPT class, and the volunteers are:
Myself
Louisa - (Amun-Ra)
Claudus
Jess.Bee
Alex
Mariel
Em
Marjorie - (Butter)
Monica
Aakriti - (Aa)
Yup that's my update for today *thumbs up*

Updates
Okay originally we had decided to create a website tour of our school, but there was another IPT group doing the idea (LMN & K&M) therefore we decided we wanted to do something 'special'. Instead we're doing a 'year book' type of thing for our entire IPT class, but only those who agree to it, and Mr Cavil too (Louisa: "We shall make him agree")
Layout Plan:
The future of our IPT classes –
· Future goals
· What really happened 20 years from now
· Most likely to…?
· Profiles about each person
· Personal quotes
· Different facial expressions
Yup that's all for now.

Theory, Assignment
OKAY! I'm going insane with this assignment, I've finally done my gannt chart (date are kinda out of whack but it's all good I'm working on getting back on schedule so that's at least something working in my favour).
Here is the Gannt chart:

Hope this is legible -.-" I'm not really sure.
I'm not finalizing the context chart - thank God I made notes on what would go where on that PDF file.
Contex chart:

The data flow diagram is on it's way...but I think it's time to continueto work on my markbook.

Assignment
Okay so I've begun creating my markbook and so far it's going pretty smoothly. I have entered nineteen different students with their marks/percentages they've recieved in four different 'assessment tasks'. I have also created the option to filtering the coloums, therefore allowing the option to sort the inputted information. And of course I have started decorating it, I am also trying to make the grades show whether or not the student passes of fails the assessment.

Requirement Report
This post will be dedicated to making/writing my requirement report. But first I thought it would be smart to put what exactly a requirement report is :).
Requirement Report:
A document that is produced in the early stages of a project that seeks to clarify the purpose of the system. Purpose is usually detailed in terms of what is needed by the participants/users of the system. Provides documentry evidence of the scope of the project. I.E. how extensive the system will be, what it would need for the system to be completed .
The reason behind the creation of this markbook is to provide an easy to use, accessible, mark/score record for teachers to use in order to be better organised and not have to go through the hassle of writing down the records. They could also be used to perhaps to work out rankings - although this may not be in the actual project (depends on whether or not I can work out the formula for it, or find it via the internet or friends).
What is needed is: to create a easier, manageable mark storage system to help teachers/professors in organising student marks. This system will allow more freedom on the transmittion and storing of the marks, however it must be noted that with the system comes some disadvantages, which teachers must be willing to work around or be ready to face. Such negatives include file corruption, and possibility to lose data - which is easy to solve in storing the file on more than one place (USB's, CD's etc etc).
The system is not supposed to be that large, just large enough that it can be used by teachers in various fields of work (History, Maths, English, etc etc). And as stated before the goals are to create a system that would store and organise student scores for teachers.
End.
---
Is it just me or did that seem like that was just a whole lot of me repeating myself by using similar or different wording? Oh well at least my requirement report is complete...at least I think it is.
Oh and I thought it would be fun to start putting in emotionicons on how I feel at the moment.

Markbook Assignment :)
Yes well, we got a new assignment and we have to create our own information system. It is an individual task and we can use either access or excel, I think I will be using access because I think it would be easier - SHOCK! - and um...because we can decorate it :). Requires us to create a problem and solve it.

Update :)
Oookay..
so we've been doing MORE - not that it's a bad thing...of course not! - diagrams to show the purpose/use of etc etc. of facebook, skype and...email (thanks Alex :D). Yah so it's been pretty basic - although I still get lost on the information processes thingys...so I'm goanna put the acronym to help me remember:
Collecting
Organising
Analyzing
Storing and retrieving
Transmitting and recieving
Processing
Display
OH! We've also got an assignment - mini one (Alex....) - to do.. and the group members are:
AND TOGETHER WE ARE LCM's
Yup and our choosen subject..is IM or instant messaging networks..or software :)
Good luck to us all!!!!
