Evaluation.

Warning: Monday Morning, First Period - this post therefore has many personalities clashing to show themselves :)
[Post filled with bs, no grammar, no logic, no sense whatsoeverrrr.]

Okay we shall start off with...

This assignment took an epic amount of time to design, which ended up eating all our time..actually getting the information down was the easy part.

Anyways...

Evaluation
Our multimedia system...although fulfils most of the criteria nescessary for it to be considered a multimedia system - i.e. interactive nature, using text, images, videos, audio - and so it's a success(?). We explored multimedia systems, and any issues regarding them - featured in Applications page.

We could've used our time more wisely, instead of concentrating on the decorative part of the site -Emily!!!!!!!!!. Also, in hindsight, Maxinnnneeeeee!!!!! could've done something whilst... - anyway..

However, we finished the assignment in a manner that makes us happy - for the majority of the pages (especially our Journal) we're happy, as the layout remains the same and therefore users would be able to see the links between them.

----

We're gonna end it here...

MULTIMEDIA SYSTEMS USING MULITMEDIA.. what a fail title o_o;

In reality the title is meaningless :) lol it's pretty much just talking about different multimedia, :)

How has developing technology affected the process/cost of different aspects of displaying and creating multimedia?

HARDWARE
Videos - Besides the basic TV or computer monitor there is also projectors used for displaying multimedia, these projectors are very bright and has clear high resolution images in broad daylight. However, it is only recently that these projectors became more accessible, They use what is called a DLP (Digital Light Processor), which is a chip roughly one centimetre square contains up to 500 000 separate mirrors. A mirror which can be individually controlled, and by shining a bright light into the chip while supplying its electrical circuit with a TV signal and therefore is able to create an image that can then be projected

Speakers and Sound Systems -

-.-;; yeah cbb adding anymore atm. :)

Examples of Multimedia Systems

Leisure and entertainment
Heavily directed towards non-text based information, for people of all ages and abilities which means information technology skills will be low. Most common form is the interactive computer game which are usually stored in CD's, and more recently in DVD's.

Usage is usually through the mouse, keyboard or joystick. The type of games/entertainment found with leisure and entertainment based multimedia systems involve "fast action and the ability of the user to explore and discover.

Information
Multimedia systems can also be used to access basic information quickly, and therefore directed towards a wide range of users - ability and age most likely not having any impact (however, the level knowledge that is needed to operate the system may become a problem).

Using multimedia systems usually means that participants have a specific task or objective in mind - such information may include interactive maps in shopping centres, and catalogue systems for a library. This means that such systems could be 'touch-based' which allows for easy use, these systems would most likely not have any audio based information, as they would be located in noisy environments and so make it hard to hear anything - but this does not mean that it is impossible to have audio.

Simulations and VR (Virtual Reality)
These are used in order to duplicate real situations and therefore are one of the most sophisticated and expensive multimedia based systems. Purpose is "to create a situation with sufficient realism that the user can gain valuable training and experience from using the system."

Simulation and Virtual Reality systems - beside for entertainment purposes - can be used as training for situations that potentially could endanger the user's life/health. Examples of such simulators would be flight simulations that pilots would use in order to learn or train how to operate various scenarios. However, such systems would cost millions of dollars, and so wouldn't be ready for everyone who may need to use them - demonstrating the main issue of constructing systems such as this.

Hardware.

Hardware is the physical technology that allows indivuals to access multimedia.

Examples of hardware include:
  • Tower/Portable hard drives/CD's/DVD/Blu Ray/USB's (for the storage of
multimedia as well as multimedia systems)
  • Screen - Monitor (to display the multimedia - video, images, text)
  • Speakers (allow one type of multimedia to be displayed - i.e.
    audio)
  • Mouse (to allow for access to multimedia)

Monitor: There are vari0us types of monitors, depending on the size an individual wishes to have, there is also various types of 'refresh rates' (meaning resolutions available for the screens). There are also differing performance measurements for each screen, as conveyed through wikipedia. Also available are different types of screens: CRT, LCD, Plasma, all of which have their own pro's and con's.

Tower: Also known as the 'computer case' or 'system unit' and it contains the main components of a computer. Major components of the tower include:
  • Motherboard
  • Form factors
  • Power supply unit
  • Drive bays (used for CDs, DVDs, USBs, card readers)
  • Buttons + LEDs
  • Vents

Speakers: Allow for the displaying of one type of multimedia, which is audio, meaning that sounds can be heard due to this hardware and without it any form of audio/music cannot be heard from the computer.

Requirement Report

Requirement Report: Describes what a product will be like when it's completed. Provides information about the need met by the product, its capabilities, its operating environment, user experiences, and properties.

Source of information is 'E-how': SOURCE

---

Emily and I (we still need the product's name -.-;;) are creating a website that will be filled with information about different multimedia and multimedia systems. We shall be exploring the positives and negatives for them in hopes that we will be able to educate individuals in the subject matter - thereby accomplishing the problem definition of creating something that would display information about multimedia, and multimedia systems (website, powerpoint presentation with hyperlinks, a wiki, etc.)

The website itself will have various pages dedicated to either a significant multimedia type, or the system themselves. We will be having a home page that will link to each page, and those pages to each other - thereby creating pretty much one big circle which would allow easy use and accessibility to whatever information is being searched for.

Operating system would be online within the school network, only to be accessed by those give permission, such as Mr Cavil and ourselves.

Users/participants should be able to navigate easily around the website, and if any problems would arise they would have to contact Emily or myself about it (we would probably provide mock email addresses or something like that).

---

COAST PD - COLLECTING, ORGANISING, ANALYSING, SHARING AND TRANSMITTING, PROCESSING, DISPLAYING

The site (as well as the actual creating of the site) will be doing:
  • Collecting: Data about multimedia and multimedia systems, the type of website that would attract users (design, level of language, etc.)
  • Organising: Information would be organised into separate web pages, thereby grouping all information into categories which enables easier use and access for everyone (as well as making work load some what more but easier for us?)
  • Analysisng: Deciding which information would be best used for the website, ensuring for understandability for everyone, as this project is directed towards high school students upwards
  • Sharing and Transmitting: Sharing of information to those who access the website. Sharing would also happen between the developers (i.e. Emily and myself) in regard to various aspects of the website
  • Displaying: Done through a monitor + and the website itself.

---

o.o; that felt like a repeat of the feasbility report, only with a few random changes/edits.

Oh well, ANOTHER THEORY PART FINISHED!

All that is left, I think is the data flow diagram.

Feasibility Report

Feasibility Report: Formal document for management use, briefly enough and sufficently non technical to be understandable by high level management. There is no standard or formal format for the preparation.

Primary objectives are as followed:

  1. What the proposed system will achieve
  2. Who will be involved in operating the system
  3. Benefits of the system
  4. Estimated cost

Information source = "Blurt it" : SOURCE

----

The website we (Emily and I...the title of the system is still in the process of being created) are developing is to display information about multimedia and its various uses depending on the type of multimedia/information is being researched. It is in our hopes to achieve the goal of having individuals (*cough*Mr Cavil*cough*) leaving the website with more knowledge in regard to multimedia and multimedia systems, in language/format that is easily understandable, and also designed well.

Those involved in the system would be the creators/maitenance crew (myself and partner/co-owner Emily), users (once again Mr Cavil...or perhaps students who wish to learn more about multimedia (not that there would be a lot but we still can hope)???).

There are numerous benefits to having a website like this including:
  • Easy access to information surrounding multimedia - which means time saving for everyone
  • Free access to those who are able to access it (as it won't technically be on the world wide web)
  • Understandable for everyone, therefore users from all background/education levels would be able to understand what is being said.

As the website is a school assignment there would be no economic cost to it's creation, in fact there should be not cost whatsoever in terms of money, time wise however is another thing.

:) New Assignment - New Team: Emily & Maxinne

Problem Definition:

To create something(i.e a website/powerpoint with hyperlinks/wiki) that displays information about multimedia (video, audio, text, images) and the platforms that are needed to use multimedia (hardware and software).

Constraints:

  • Finance - what finance? We're supposed to create an easily accessible, FREE fountain of information about multimedia. And we're supposed to do this without spending a cent :) we're magical like that.
  • Time - To do it within the time we are allocated (two months [in class mixed with everything else]..???), finish everything by the time the assignment is due in July.
  • Social - make sure we don't use anything that is copyrighted OR at least reference sources of information
  • Ethical - Don't put anything M-rated OR not allowed on the internet (or at least a school related website...). In brief otherwords, anything that Mr Neaves approves of :)

Theory, Assignment

OKAY! I'm going insane with this assignment, I've finally done my gannt chart (date are kinda out of whack but it's all good I'm working on getting back on schedule so that's at least something working in my favour).

Here is the Gannt chart:

Hope this is legible -.-" I'm not really sure.

I'm not finalizing the context chart - thank God I made notes on what would go where on that PDF file.
